At this point, especially with Wags on the DL, I say any new blood in the bullpen is welcome. Man, talk about the literal definition of “hit or miss.” After three frustrating losses against a 2nd tier team, our boys need to turn up the volume. I’m watching Pelfrey now, hoping he’s our stopper–that he continues what’s been a steady increase in confidence, swagger, and unhittable stuff. But also, I’m cheering for the young guys. For Daniel Murphy, with his jumping, look-at-that-infielder-in-the-outfield catches. For youthful big guy Eddie Kunz in the pen. For…whomever winds up starting in Maine’s spot, even if it’s Vargas. For Ruddy “Okay, sure, but who are you?” Lugo.
Ooh, and lookie! Fernando Tatis just hit his 101th career homer, 2nd of the night, scoring all 4 RBI. You keep that up, Tatty. There was something in the air that night. The stars were bright, Fernando.
Now let’s take a moment to first celebrate the rookie passing of the baton in our bullpen (Kunz is sporting some extra pink trim on that major league cap there).
And secondly, maybe for his next start Johan can make a trip to the bullpen and throw in some new handshakes. Handshakes seem to make him happy. Maybe all the pitchers can bond, and then the relievers won’t keep losing his games. Worth a try…
I can’t deny it: I would like the Mets to sweep the Padres, please.
I might even carry a princess pink backpack if they do.
